VOLUME THREE
Portugal, the oldest country in Europe. Pastel de Nata. Wine. Coffee. Coastline! Friends, I recommend visiting Portugal if you get the chance. (this is not a paid advertisement) We explored the city of Lisbon over the week of Thanksgiving with my brother and his wife. I have since that trip told anyone who will listen about how great Lisbon is. I love it. We love it. Everyone loves it. It's friendly, beautiful, exciting, mysterious, ancient, mesmerizing and (bonus) pretty cheap. I want to retire there. At least I think I do right now.
I recall one of the nights after dinner we were wandering through the city and we turned down this alley and the wall moved. It was really dark but the wall moved, so I jumped and looked towards the wall. It was just a nice older woman standing there people watching... at night... in the dark. She blended in so well. Fascinating.
We had Ginja, a cherry (or berry) liqueur inside of chocolate shot glasses. We ate quietly while we were serenaded by the beautifully haunting Fado music of some locals. What is Fado music you might ask? well... a type of Portuguese singing, traditionally associated with pubs and cafés, that is renowned for its expressive and profoundly melancholic character. That's what it is. I wouldn't recommend it if you are feeling down but if you are in Lisbon you probably won't be so... you're good. They have these famous yellow street cars that you see everywhere. The place was so charming I just fell in love. It could've been the company, my wife, my brother, his wife, people I love experiencing a new city together as one but there was just something. The song has been out for a little while but it seems to be the one people like and I'm assuming that happens because I like Lisbon so much. Love begets love.
LYRICS
If I could drop it all, run away with you
I'd do it in a heartbeat
Show me a sign, throw me a line
And I'll chase you like a daydream
Cause you've been running running running through my head
Since I first saw you
I see us walking down the alleyways in Lisbon
You're hand in my hand
Looking for a way to escape
Find a little romance
Together running running running through this town
And there's nothing nothing nothing to be found
Since I found you
And this unassuming town invites us for a drink
As we wander and we wonder down these twisted streets
And it might all be in my head, this idea of you
But let's hold onto each other just like lovers do
See the locals blending right into the walls
In the glow of the street lights
It's so quiet all we hear are our footfalls
Your presence has me tongue tied
Cause we've been running running running out of time
And I'm buzzing buzzing buzzing from your wine
Now that I found you
And this unassuming town invites us for a drink
As we wander and we wonder down these twisted streets
And it might all be in my head, this idea of you
But let's hold onto each other just like lovers do
Maybe we could stay
Maybe we could hold on to this moment
Maybe live this dream
Maybe get forgotten here in Lisbon
Forgotten here in Lisbon
And this unassuming town invites us for a drink
As we wander and we wonder down these twisted streets
And it might all be in my head, this idea of you
But let's hold onto each other just like lovers do
And this unassuming town invites us for a drink
As we wander and we wonder down these twisted streets
And it might all be in my head, this idea of you
But let's hold onto each other just like lovers do
Just like lovers do
